A Call to Action

As you may recall, we had a wild summer here at Batter & Mac. In an attempt to spread joy and inclusivity, we scheduled a Drag Story Hour and Cupcake Decorating event. What unfolded after we announced this event was overwhelming. We received so much love and support. We are so proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community and to support the kids Courage MKE so fearlessly serves. We look forward to continuing our work with them.

 We were also on the receiving end of bullying and threats. We do not take this lightly. Jesse Simcox is the leader of the Wisconsin chapter of Gays Against Groomers, a group classified as a hate group by both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League. He attacked Brittany. He attacked Batter & Mac. He has built his entire brand on belittling and bullying trans people. His words and actions are harmful to the trans community, including children. His brand of trans-erasure is not founded in truth or science and is firmly founded in bigotry and hatred.

 We here at Batter & Mac will not back down to bullies. Whether they are bullying us personally or attacking the most vulnerable members of our community. After discussing with our attorneys, we have decided to hold Jesse Simcox accountable for his actions in a court of law. We are suing him for defamation.  We are considering other legal actions as well and  will keep you updated about our plans.

 This is not a decision we came to lightly, but we feel it is our responsibility to use our privilege to fight for what is right. Shutting down hate is always right. However, legal battles do not come without a cost. During the events that transpired throughout June, many of you asked us what you could do to help. We humbly present to you a call to action. If you feel so inclined and have the means, we invite you to donate to our legal fees associated with this battle. We have set up a number of donor levels below, each comes with a different token of our undying appreciation.
